In the early hours of 27th November 2009, an attempt had been made by an unidentified person or persons to burn down the Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple at 4608 Kingston Road, Scarborought, known as the Toronto ‘Maha Viharaya’.
On seeing smoke from the Temple, a TTC Bus Operator had informed the Fire Department. Non one has been injured. Extensive damages have been caused to the temple. This is the second attempt made to set ablaze the temple this year.
Investigations are being carried out by the law enforcement authorities.
At a meeting with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFA&IT) today, the High Commission conveyed the concerns of the Government of Sri Lanka to the Canadian Officials on the incident. The DFA&IT assured that precautionary measures will be taken to protect Sri Lankan interests in Canada.
